The Latest News and Updates from St Matthew & St Luke's Church

We are pleased to announce that as from Good Friday, church has re-opened for public worship. Services are on Sundays at 11am and Wednesdays at 10am. The full schedule can be found on the Services page.

We'll continue to have services available on Facebook / YouTube and by telephone. You can find out the latest on all our services on our Services page

In line with current governement guidelines, masks should be worn whilst you are in church. There will be hand sanitisers at the entrance and exit, with people entering on Brinkburn Road and leaving through the porch onto Hazel Avenue.

We have taped off alternate pews to help maintain social distancing with yellow tape indicating where people should sit, and ask that you leave your service book behind when you leave.

.If you are in a vulnerable group we would encourage you to follow the relevant Government guidelines.

New member of the team

We will have a new member of the team joining in the summer.

David is in his final year of training for ordination and will join us as our Curate in July 2021.

A Curate is someone who has been ordained and is completing their training in a Parish/Chaplaincy.

We are very much looking forward to meeting David and his family, (Hanna, Lucy, Marco, Miriam, Elsie) in due course.

Here's David's message:

Hello, my name is David Lucas and I will be joining you and Rev. Lissa Scott next year as the new Curate.  My family, my wife Hanna and our four children, are also excited about this new chapter.  We join you after having lived in Durham for the last 5 years. We are originally from Canada, just outside of Vancouver, British Columbia.  We love the outdoors.  We like hiking and camping as a family.  We have seen God’s guidance and provision in our move from Canada to Durham, and we feel the same peace of Christ bringing us to serve with you.   I am excited to start worshipping with you, getting to know you, serving alongside you, and learning what God is doing in your communities.  Know that we are praying for you and we ask that you will keep us in your prayers over the next nine months.  God bless you all.
