St. Matthew and St. Luke's Church has become the latest collection point in Darlington for the Darlington Credit Union.  We are open from 10am until 12 noon every Tuesday morning (during the weekly coffee morning) and anyone can open an account.

All you need to bring along are two forms of ID - one of which ideally should have your photograph, for example a passport, driving licence or bus pass, and a bill or statement with your address on (this is a legal requirement set by the financial watchdog under which the Credit Unions operate).

We then issue savings books in which all transactions are registered.  It's as easy as that.

If you have a problem with Tuesday mornings and would like to open an account then just catch me at any of the services and I will help in any way I can.

The Credit Union has been running for several years now in Darlington and has helped numerous folk with small loans and financial advice.

We need as many investors as possible; indeed Bishop Mark has laid down a challenge throughout the Diocese to find 1,000 new investors. This will enable the work of the Credit Union here in Durham Diocese to continue its work, enabling not only those who find themselves in debt the ability to have a small affordable loan, but also in paying back money owed they can help others.

In order to do this they need people to invest.

So I urge everyone at St. Matthew's to consider opening an account, and let us together help people here in Darlington - you never know, you may be helping your neighbour.

Thank you on behalf of the Credit Union.
